Myanmar's History
Myanmar, once known as Burma, has been forever
changed by centuries of history. From its thriving Pyu
kingdom from 200 B.C. to 900 A.D., to cultural exchange
with India and China, Myanmar has enjoyed many
prosperous eras. Yet, the country’s recent and complex
histories have left long-lasting impacts. British colonial
rule lasted from 1824 to 1948 in Burma, changing the
country’s economy and status quo. From 1962 to 2011,
Myanmar remained tightly closed to the outside world
through an oppressive military junta’s rule. With All Asia
Tours, you can embark on an exclusive journey to
Myanmar’s iconic historic sites and experience much of the
country’s new, more hopeful ethos firsthand.
Myanmar’s thousands of temples and fascinating sites hint at the country’s rich history and strong Buddhist ties. Bagan’s temples and pagodas are an excellent place to start; this archaeological zone’s ancient monuments display how Burmese architectural styles changed over the centuries. Ananda Temple in Bagan is steeped in layers of sacred history, and its 31-foot-tall (9.5 m) teak Buddha statues are definite must-sees. Shwezigon Pagoda, located in Nyaung-U near Bagan, is a stunning gilded stupa. In 1044, King Anawrahta began Shwezigon’s construction, making it one of the region’s oldest monuments.
Yangon also brims over with historical treasures. Shwedagon Pagoda, a stunning gem-encrusted stupa, is the regular site of oil lamp lighting ceremonies, and Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Temple houses a famous Reclining Buddha that stretches a staggering 213 feet (65 m). For an introduction to the city’s colonial sites, visit the Strand Hotel, Central Post Office, and Bogyoke Aung San Market.

"Fantastic experience, very well organized in every detail. Vietman is not rich of historical sites, but a country that entertain the visitor with all aspects of their culture. More than a tour it has been a holiday. I enjoyed a lot entertainment as painting mask and cooking lessons."
