Best Times to Visit Myanmar
While the climate of Myanmar is described as tropical,
there are several regional variations. There are months
when the weather is essentially dry while the monsoon
season results in significant rainfall to the extent that
coastal resorts may shut down completely. However, in the
central plains, the rainfall is just a fraction of that on the
coast. Altitude is a factor when it comes to temperature; it
was a reason for the development of hill stations in colonial
times when the British wanted to avoid the high
temperatures of lowland areas. Here is a Myanmar month-
by-month guide.
Myanmar Travel Month-by-Month Guide
Throughout the year, Myanmar as a whole experiences
different seasons and types of weather. Typically, festivals
and holiday celebrations come and go as the seasons
change, therefore it is best to plan ahead so you can get
the most out of your Myanmar vacation. Please refer to
our
weather guide below:
January
Visiting Myanmar in January
If you go travelling Myanmar in January is it likely that you
will see the Country at its best. Blue skies mean no rainfall
and that also means little reason for the transport
infrastructure to be disrupted. Temperatures will be rising
but very comfortable. The beaches in the south and west
will be enjoying hours of sunshine during the day. In the
central plains it will be hot so have plenty of water with
you. In places like Shan State and Inle Lake, temperatures
will fall at sunset and will mean a chill in the air in the
morning so a jumper or fleece is advisable.

February
Visiting Myanmar in February
A Myanmar February tour package will likely include a visit
to Ngapali Beach where the resort will be at its best.
Temperatures are rising throughout the Country and there
is less chill in the air at night time and early morning but a
piece of warm clothing is still advisable. Myanmar
becomes busier in February as the Christmas Holiday is a
few weeks past. With limited accommodation, it is
advisable to book in advance to be certain of getting the
place you want. With water levels fairly low, cruises on the
Irrawaddy’s higher sections and the Chindwin River may be
limited.

March
Visiting Myanmar in March
Myanmar weather March makes it the prime month for a
Myanmar holiday so expect to find it relatively busy.
Lowland averages are 35C and temperatures even reach
30C in the highland areas to the north and east. While the
lower sections of the Irrawaddy will be navigable, that is
less the case further upriver. Beaches will be fairly busy so
travellers should certainly have their resort
accommodation booked in advance.

April
Visiting Myanmar in April
Anyone taking a Myanmar April tour package will find
temperatures are rising, probably the hottest before the rains
arrive. On the Coast, temperatures can exceed 35C and
regularly touch 40C in the Central lowland areas. The
highland regions are likely to exceed 30C yet they are an
escape from even hotter weather.

May
Visiting Myanmar in May
If you are travelling Myanmar in May you will see that
prices start to fall because tourist numbers will begin to
decline. It is a good time to guarantee a suntan while
finding places less busy. The heavy rains are imminent so
there is the chance of a shower and some breezes but they
are often refreshing. The Central Lowlands maintain their
high temperatures will they fall a little elsewhere. Towards
the end of the month, coastal resorts will start
preparations to secure things before the monsoons.

June
Visiting Myanmar in June
Myanmar weather June sees the South West monsoon arrive
though in the early weeks of the monsoon, it may only mean
some short afternoon showers. Average Myanmar
temperatures are 30C across the Country and there is
unlikely to be any transport disruption as yet.

July
Visiting Myanmar in July
Travelling Myanmar in July become more difficult because
of the quality of the roads in rural areas. The coastal
resorts will have closed down completely and the seas will
have become fairly rough. It is not cold anywhere but it is
likely to be wet. Flights are unlikely to head to the Coast
anymore. Tourists should concentrate on the cities where
the infrastructure is better established. There is still plenty
to see but you may have to dodge the rain.

August
Visiting Myanmar in August
A Myanmar August tour package will have the same issue
as in July although by the end of the month, the volume of
rainfall should be declining. The Waters in the Bay of
Bengal and the Andaman Sea mean that none of the
resorts are open for tourists. Some roads will remain
difficult and even impassable. Some people still enjoy a
Myanmar holiday in August but they need to be patient.

September
Visiting Myanmar in September
If you book a Myanmar September tour package, you will
see rainfall reduce and temperatures fall a little but they
still hover either side of 30C. Early in the months, there
will still be winds, and a variable amount of rain. Tourist
numbers are fairly low with the beach resorts still closed
and rural roads still a problem at times. In the Central
Lowlands, little rain is likely and temperatures will be in
the 30Cs.

October
Visiting Myanmar in October
With rainfall well past its peak, you may avoid it
completely when travelling Myanmar in October, especially
as the month goes on. There are now many clear days
with no rain. The coastal resorts open during October but
the level of service in those early weeks may not be the
best because there may be repair work going on,
depending on the ferocity of the monsoon. The main inland
tourist regions are at their best and the river levels high so
all the cruises will be functioning properly.

November
Visiting Myanmar in November
You will enjoy a Myanmar November tour package. Tourist
numbers are yet to grow yet the general conditions are
excellent. There is little likelihood of rain, the roads are
fine and flights regularly go from Yangon down to the
South and West Coasts. Lowland temperatures remain
around 30C although in highland areas they are likely to be
25C. It means some warm clothing needs to be packed. It
is a great time for a cruise while all the beach resorts will
be at their best.
