Cambodian Architecture
Angkor Wat in Siem Reap stands as Cambodia’s most
iconic architectural work. This UNESCO-recognized Khmer
masterpiece is one of the world's most stunning
monuments in terms of its proportions, design, and
intricate bas-relief sculptures. The temple complex’s
layout is also rich in symbolism, drawing connections
between the heavenly and earthly realms. In Hindu
mythology, there are five holy mountains where the gods
reside. Of these peaks, Mount Meru stands in the center,
surrounded by a cosmic sea. Each of Angkor Wat’s
sandstone lotus-bud towers represents one of these holy
mountains, and its vast moat harks to these infinite
oceans. Many other Angkor temples, including Bayon and
Banteay Srei, also boast stunning Khmer-style architecture
and are definite must-sees.
Venture to Cambodia’s capital city -- Phnom Penh -- for a fascinating and eclectic blend of traditional and modern styles. You’ll be blown away by the beautiful Royal Palace, which combines elements of Thai and French design. This building looks similar to Bangkok’s royal palace with its multi-tiered, marmalade-colored roof accented in gold spires. Perfectly manicured European-style formal gardens also circle the building. Phnom Penh is also home to an array of French colonial architecture including the Central Post Office and a number of historic hotels. If you’re passionate about more modern designs, the New Khmer Architecture movement took place in Phnom Penh during the 1950s and 60s. Some iconic structures, such as the Olympic Stadium, still stand today.

"Fantastic experience, very well organized in every detail. Vietman is not rich of historical sites, but a country that entertain the visitor with all aspects of their culture. More than a tour it has been a holiday. I enjoyed a lot entertainment as painting mask and cooking lessons."
