Best Times to Visit Thailand
No matter the time of year, Thailand is always an
excellent travel destination. Much of Thailand has a
tropical climate, however, slight regional variations
exist. The north tends to have three distinct
seasons, while the south has two. Even so,
Thailand’s weather is never uncomfortably cold,
even in the north. The south’s east and west coasts
also have their own distinct climates. Wintertime
tends to be the best for visiting west coast
destinations like Phuket. On the east coast, home
to popular places like Ko Samui, you can enjoy
favorable weather almost all year long.
Typically, the most popular times to visit Thailand
are from November to March, when Southeast Asia
as a whole tends to have drier weather. Many
regions of Thailand experience significant rains from
July through mid-October. Although these showers
aren’t constant, they can last for a few hours.
Humidity levels also tend to be high, and average
temperatures often hover around 86 °F (30 °C).
Check out the Thailand month-by-month guide to
help you decide on the best time for your Thailand
trip.
Thailand Travel Month-by-Month Guide
Throughout the year, Thailand as a whole experiences
different seasons and types of weather. Typically, festivals
and holiday celebrations come and go as the seasons
change, therefore it is best to plan ahead so you can get
the most out of your Thailand vacation. Please refer to our
weather guide below:
January
Visiting Thailand in January
If you decide to travel to Thailand in January, you'll enjoy
the climate no matter where you go. The favorable
temperatures and dry weather make this month one of the
busiest times for tourists. In northern regions such as
Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, it will be relatively cool (upper
60s °F, 20 °C) and dry, making travel perfectly
comfortable. Nights can become fairly chilly, so make sure
to bring layers of clothing. In central Thailand (including
Bangkok and southern coastal regions), the weather will
also be dry with average temperatures in the upper 80s °F
(30 °C). Cooling breezes flow through Thailand's southern
resorts, and the waters are ideal for beach activities.
January through mid-April is the best time to enjoy the
white sand beaches at Ko Samui and in the eastern gulf
region.

February
Visiting Thailand in February
February is a busy and fun time for a Thailand trip. Like
January, a Thailand February tour package showcases the
country at its best. Thailand weather tends to be dry
throughout the entire country, and average daytime
temperatures can reach about 77 °F (25 °C), making this a
perfect time to visit. Bright azure blue skies stretch across
the coastal regions of Phuket and Ko Samui -- areas that
also experience the lowest rainfall. In February, occasional
showers are possible on the east islands. Many days offer
comfortable water temperatures in the low 80s °F (high
20s °C), making water sports especially popular.

March
Visiting Thailand in March
Thailand weather in March is dry with rising temperatures.
Even in the north's mountainous regions, it sometime hits
95 °F (high 30s °C). Central areas, including Bangkok,
continually experience temperatures in the mid 90s °F
(mid 30s °C). Southern coasts enjoy clear blue skies and
plenty of sunshine, making this a busy time for tourists.
March is a great time for traveling anywhere in Thailand
and the perfect season for enjoying endless sunshine at
the beaches.

April
Visiting Thailand in April
When you book a Thailand April tour package, take note
that Thailand's sweltering summer is approaching. Expect
Thailand weather to be hot and make sure to bring plenty
of water wherever you go. Temperatures in southern
coastal regions are slightly cooler but still hover around the
upper 80s °F (30 °C). Generally speaking, there are
chances of April showers along the coast of Andaman Sea
at Phuket, Khao Lak, and Krabi. While the east coast
experiences fewer rain showers than the west, this month
remains a busy time for tourists. Thailand also celebrates
New Year (Songkran) in April. Thais and international
tourists alike travel through the country, participating in
Songkran festivities. Make sure to reserve your tour and
accommodations well in advance so you can enjoy
Thailand's awe-inspiring cultural celebrations.

May
Visiting Thailand in May
When you travel to Thailand in May, temperatures will be
slightly cooler overall but still hover around the high 80s °F
(30 °C). There may be slight rains in Bangkok, Chiang
Mai, and much of the west coast and offshore islands.
Typically, the east coast remains drier, and temperatures
will be a little cooler than in the cities (like Bangkok).
However, very little rain tends to be expected in May, so
your trip is unlikely to be affected by the weather. Plus,
there are many benefits to visiting Thailand during this
month, including fewer tourists and sizeable discounts on
hotels.

June
Visiting Thailand in June
Thailand weather in June will certainly involve some rain.
Thankfully, showers do not dominate the month, and
rainfall tends to be short rather than prolonged.
Temperatures in the central part of Thailand remain in the
80s °F (30 °C), and the north stays slightly cooler. The
rain refreshes the north and central regions, turning the
foliage back to a rich green. The natural landscape
becomes more brilliant and beautiful, and the ruins look
especially stunning. Rain also tends to be more
commonplace in the southwest coast. If you're looking for
consistent sunshine, you'll want to head southeast to Ko
Samui and the offshore islands.

July
Visiting Thailand in July
In July, temperatures start dropping, but daily rains also
begin to increase. This month marks the start of the
Thailand’s monsoon season, which typically continues until
mid-October. Rain showers tend to be short and intense
rather than all-day downpours. When you go traveling
through Thailand in July, you will encounter monsoon
weather. The humidity is very high, and average
temperatures will be in the 80s °F (30 °C) or lower in most
parts of the country. Despite the rains, sightseeing is still
possible in most areas (except the western coast). The
Andaman coast experiences stormy weather until October,
so it’s best to avoid a trip to coastal remote islands (such
as Ko Phi Phi or Ko Yao Noi) as boat services will be
limited. Unlike the west, the eastern gulf regions tend to
be sunny with few showers.

August
Visiting Thailand in August
If you book a Thailand August tour package, you will be
visiting the country during one of the rainiest seasons.
Temperatures tend to stay in the low 80s °F (high 20s °C)
throughout the country, and rain tends to be a daily
occurrence. Rainfall also typically reaches its peak in
August and lasts until the beginning of September. Yet,
the west coast receives more precipitation than the central
and north by far. On the plus side, the waterfalls are in
their full flow and the vegetation becomes lush. Thailand's
gulf region, including Ko Samui, has the best beach
destinations to visit in August. At most, you may
experience a few short showers.

September
Visiting Thailand in September
You will not be able to escape the rain during a Thailand
September tour package. Typically, temperatures will
begin falling, and there are continual chances of storms.
September is not the best time to visit Thailand's lovely
beaches, although Hua Hin and Ko Samui can be pleasant
at this time of year. Benefits of September Thailand trips
include lower tourist numbers and excellent bargains on
hotels and tours.

October
Visiting Thailand in October
Traveling to Thailand in October means that significant
weather changes are coming. There will be ever-
decreasing amounts of rainfall as Thailand’s monsoon
season is finally coming to an end. The central and
northern regions begin to enjoy more comfortable
temperatures and lower humidity. In Bangkok and
surrounding areas, the temperatures stay similar to those
of previous months (80s °F (30 °C)). Nothern
temperatures can fall below 77 °F (25 °C) -- the closest
Thailand gets to a winter's chill. Southern beaches may
still experience a little rainfall at the beginning of October,
and by the end of the month, weather conditions also tend
to be better on the western coast and offshore islands.

November
Visiting Thailand in November
A Thailand November tour package is an excellent choice;
the sunshine comes back and temperatures are lower.
Typically, you'll want to dress in layers and bring some
warm clothing. Mornings and evenings can be a bit chilly,
especially in northern Thailand. November marks
Thailand’s dry season, so this is a perfect time to sightsee
in Bangkok and tour the ancient ruins in Ayutthaya or
Sukhothai. You can enjoy lush landscapes in mountainous
regions like Chiang Rai. If you're looking for beach
activities, the western coast is especially inviting.
However, Thailand's gulf region -- including Ko Samui and
Ko Pha-Ngan -- starts to experience a rainy season that
typically lasts until December.

December
Visiting Thailand in December
If you are traveling to Thailand in December, expect tourist
crowds and outstanding weather throughout most of the
country. Thailand’s dry season makes for especially
favorable conditions, the humidity is low, and average
temperatures range from 65 °F to the 80s °F (18 °C to 27
°C). This month is also the best time for hiking and
trekking in the north. Even in Bangkok, you'll typically
have a couple of cool weeks that provide a refreshing
break from the sweltering-hot climate. If you're
passionate about water activities, you'll want to visit
Thailand's west coast beaches for optimal conditions. In
December, the west sees temperatures close to the upper
80s °F (30 °C) and little rain. Since December is
Thailand's busiest season, you'll want to make your travel
arrangements well in advance.
